Easy Of Use
Joyetech delivers another ground-breaking box mod to the masses. The Grip II is an all-in-one mod that hits hard and with looks of the classiest proportions. 80watts of vaping power and a leak-proof tank, it doesn't get much easier than this. This complete kit comes in under $50! That is very hard to find from a credible vape producer.
Joyetech produced one of the first all in one vaping devices with its original eGrip, so to say that its sequel was highly anticipated would be an understatement. The new Joyetech eGrip 2 is a complete upgrade over its predecessor, immediately joining our list of the best box mods in the process. This device combines strong power output with ease of use to satisfy the vast majority of vapers, including those just starting out with e-cigs.
The first thing I noticed about the eGrip 2 is how well made it is. It feels sturdy in the hand, so you are not constantly on edge about dropping it. The internal components are also stable, as they do not rattle at all during normal use or even if you try shaking the device. New vapers are likely to need this added durability more than others, but anyone can get behind a little bit of accident insurance.
The eGrip 2 is also visually appealing, boasting a minimalist design reminiscent of the stainless steel flasks of yesteryear. The device’s stainless steel finish is brushed on, lending it a flawless appearance that you will be eager to take out in public. Few devices are as stylish as this one.
The eGrip 2’s OLED screen and control buttons are located on the front of the device. The panel is black, creating a contrast with the stainless steel body that really helps the device to pop. The display is clear and bright, so there should be no problems seeing it. You can even play a video game on it! The power button is located at the top of the machine for easy access, while the rest of the options (OLED screen, up and down buttons, micro USB port, etc.) are placed a little lower. All of them are responsive and easy to use, ideal for newer users.
Even the best vape mod is useless if you cannot figure out how to use it, and overly complicated devices frequently prevent people from starting to vape. Joyetech seems to have kept this in mind when designing the eGrip 2. As mentioned above, the buttons are easy to use. Filling the tank with e-liquid is also as simple as unscrewing the cap and pouring your choice of e-liquid into the tank. The bottom of the device is completely sealed, preventing the leaks that sometimes plague other devices. There are even helpful arrows that help indicate the proper depth of a full tank so that it does not overflow when the coil is inserted. The user experience is also aided by the included tank’s 3.5 mL capacity, limiting how often the above steps must be performed. When it is time to recharge the eGrip 2, all you need to do is plug it in using its USB port. Once you have chosen your desired settings and filled the tank, all you need to do is insert the aforementioned coil before you are ready to vape.
You will notice the eGrip 2’s excellent performance as soon as you start to use it. Its vapor production is very good, bringing out plenty of flavor from your e-liquid. This remains true even if you play with the many options the eGrip 2 has to offer, a sharp contrast to the devices that lose performance under certain conditions.
The temperature controls include the standard options veteran vapers have come to expect. The device ranges from 200 degrees Fahrenheit to 600 degrees (100 degrees to 315 degrees Celsius) and can be locked to ensure the inputted temperature setting is actually what you get. You can also adjust the ramp up wattage if you like. The wattage declines as you start to run out of power, but it does so with minimal interference with your vaping experience.

The included 316 threaded coils perform well, but veterans may be leery of a machine that lacks the 510 threading that has become the industry standard. This is definetly a head-scratcher these days but never fear – Joyetech includes an atomizer adapter that allows the eGrip 2 to use any 510 threaded tank. It screws on easily and performs as intended, so the eGrip 2 can safely be considered a 510-compatible device right out of the box. This feature allows novices to invest in the eGrip 2 knowing that it will be able to evolve with them when they are ready for a new tank, while experienced vapers do not need to abandon their tank collection to give it a try. The two included atomizer heads, the NotchCoil 0.25 ohm DL and BF Clapton 1.5 ohm MTL, are just as easy as the adapter to screw on and off.
Most of my problems with the eGrip 2 are fairly nit-picky. For a device that is clearly aimed at an inexperienced audience, it would have been nice if Joyetech found a way to spare them the hassle of picking out e-liquid by including some in the box. Most devices lack it, however, so I can’t complain too much. The RBA head and menu system are also clunkier than they need to be. Veterans may not be satisfied by the machine’s 2100 mAh battery, though beginners should have nothing to worry about on this front. Finally, a spitback issue prevents the device from deserving the best possible marks. I have seen reviews that just rip this device to shreds because of it but there is one very easy fix – let the juice sit for about 20 min when refilling as this atomizer needs more time than others in this category. I filled my tank waited about a half an hour and it was absolutely fine!
Despite these issues, the Joyetech eGrip 2 is a very capable device that I intend to continue using after the trial period is over. It provides enough power for most while remaining accessible enough to entice new users to try it. The device is also sturdy, easy to recharge, and produced by a reputable manufacturer. There’s not much more you can ask for out of a box mod of this style.
